Tour De Yorkshire

Tour De Yorkshire

The eyes of the world are once again on Yorkshire, with the staging of the third Tour de Yorkshire (28-30 April 2017).

Hosted by Amaury Sport Organisation and Welcome to Yorkshire, and supported by British Cycling, the Tour de Yorkshire is a 2.1 UCI Europe Tour international cycle race, attracting some of the biggest teams from around the world as they take on hills, dales, moors, towns, cities and villages across Yorkshire.

The Tour de Yorkshire sees three full stages of racing – from Bridlington to Scarborough, Tadcaster to Harrogate, and Bradford to Fox Valley, Sheffield, providing some dramatic and challenging terrain, plus a women’s race on Saturday 29 April.

Stage 1 Bridlington to Scarborough (Friday 28 April)

The Tour de Yorkshire will pass through some of the North York Moors' most iconic landscapes, including the Hole of Horcum, Goathland (just over the moortop from Partridge Nest Farm) and the North York Moors Coast, before finishing 173km later in Scarborough.

The route includes three King of the Mountain classifications, including two in the National Park - Côte de Goathland and Côte de Robin Hood's Bay, which will challenge riders as they pass through a rich tapestry of our landscapes, from high moor and market town to forest, coast and dale.

Travel information

  • An early arrival is recommended to guarantee you a perfect spot along the route
  • Rolling road closures along the race route will generally last no more than an hour, apart from at the start and finish and at some of the climbs where longer road closures will be required
  • Police motorcycles will close off the race route approximately 30 mins before the riders are expected. Roads will reopen after the last support vehicles have passed. Up-to-date details on road closures will be available from North Yorkshire County Council closer to the race date
  • Fast rail and road links make us an easy place to get to, see our travel pages for public transport information and local services
  • Timetables can be viewed for the Esk Valley Railway and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
  • Details of our car parks and nearest public toilets are available here

Why not make a long weekend of it and stay at Partridge Nest Farm? We can provide secure bike storage and an area to clean your bike. We are just over the moortop from the Côte de Goathland

Tour de Yorkshire Sportive

In addition to the professional race, the Maserati Tour de Yorkshire Ride will give amateur cyclists the chance to ride some of the roads ridden by the pros from Stage 3 of the men's race on a newly designed sportive route, which will start and finish in Fox Valley (Sheffield). Take your pick from the 45km, 75km or 100km and book online here.

North York Moors - made for cycling

Once you've finished watching the race, why not get on your bike and explore the rest of the National Park for yourself? There are routes for all abilities whether you're a family cyclist or a world-class mountain biker.

The area's flagship biking route is the 150-mile Moor to Sea Network – a series of interconnected loops that explores quiet villages, woodland tracks and shady bridleways. Best of all is the ‘Cinder Track’ section – 21 view-filled miles along the old Scarborough to Whitby railway line.

For mountain bike fans, Dalby Forest is England’s largest trail centre, and features over 40 miles of trails that snake through the trees and across the moorland plateau – great for families and experienced bikers alike.

The views from Sutton Bank on the western edge of the National Park are immense – and you can see them for yourself by bike on three interlinked trails that start and finish at family-friendly bike rental outlet Sutton Bank Bikes. It’s an experience to savour – riding along the escarpment with the wind in your hair.

There’s also plenty of places to hire a bike or join a guided ride for insider tips on the best singletrack, downhills, trails or roads.
